As the Commonwealth Campuses are asked to do more with less, how do we creatively solve campus problems with our limited funds, staff, and time? In this presentation, panelists will talk about how campuses have leveraged Power Automate to reduce ‘sludge’: what Cass Sunstein calls the red tape, emails, and procedural barriers that stop people from getting things done.
In this panel discussion, Lloyd Painter (Altoona), Jon Peters (Schuylkill), and Allain Daigle (Greater Allegheny/Fayette) will each share a project that leverages Microsoft Power Automate to address a campus need and reduce sludge. Lloyd will present an Events Dashboard that helps his team reduce missed support events by bringing visibility to the support team for upcoming events; Jon will discuss a collaboration with Academic Affairs to improve the approval, communication, and documentation of Honors Option Requests; Allain will present on a Tracking Dashboard he’s created to centralize and streamline internship credit applications. Panelists will discuss the time saved, pain points, and recommendations on when (and when not) to use Power Automate to cut down on time spent stuck in sludge - with the goal of freeing up time to focus on wicked problems and the humans in our loops.
By the end of the session, attendees will have a sense of use cases for Power Automate, the value of these projects, and a sense of how to implement similar projects on their campuses.
